Why did I choose ASBS MBA in Finance?
My journey to build a robust finance career, from completing my graduation to doing an MBA and then getting into a role relevant to my specialisation, was enriching and with wonderful memories. I have always been clear about working in the finance domain and selecting the right path for a meaningful future. Now, looking back, I can say with clarity that my choice to pursue an ASBS MBA in Finance has provided avenues for career opportunities and success that brought me closer to my long-term goals.
From Accounting to Core Finance
My Educational Background: Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) in Accounting, Narayan Zantye College of Commerce.
I was never in doubt about what I wanted to do. Unlike most students who are unsure about their futures by the time they graduate, I have always been drawn to finance. This field attracted me because I love numbers and have always had an analytical mind.
Since I had aspirations to build a career in finance, an MBA in finance was the next best option. I thought that it would help me in the long run, such as providing a better opportunity for growth, more stability, and exposure to the industry. Having a background in accounting strengthens my base, which came in handy during my MBA at ASBS. A background in finance makes conceptualizing key principles infinitely easier for students looking to pursue financial services technology careers.
Landing ASBS MBA in Finance
I took the ATMA and got a 93 percentile before starting my MBA. I prepared mostly through self-study and daily mock tests which helped me exercise analytical and problem solving abilities, that continue to help me in my work even today.
I was confident that I wanted to go into Finance, but picking the right MBA college can be tricky. There were several institutes whose fees were high or where the placement was not good. I found out about the ASBS MBA in a seminar and what struck me as the best part was its affordable fee structure with placements being one of the core focus areas for freshers. I attended a counselling session to get a better understanding of how they operated and felt happy with my choice.
My Experience at ASBS MBA
I have had a very fruitful and enjoyable journey in the ASBS MBA for two years. The course structure is not only limited strictly to the theory, but also encompasses practical education via case studies, presentations and a series of industry oriented tasks.
During my learning, one of the most defining experiences was a live business activity directly from industry experts. We were given ₹2,500 to build a profitable venture. We used the demand for Holi colours during a season, sourcing from a self-help group, re-branding it, and executing the go-to-market strategy as a team. This allowed us to scale to about ₹15,000 in revenue and a profit of nearly ₹9,000 while giving us practical experience in real-world business.
Live Projects at ASBS MBA
What is unique about the ASBS MBA is its multi-city exposure to students. One such learning module in Goa was Batch StratX. It was an on-field experiential learning program. As a part of the Team TITANS, we executed team-based challenges, decision-making, coordination, and strategy execution in real time.
Another project was Beach CSR, where we looked into sustainability mechanics. We focused on plastic waste reduction and responsible tourism. This project aims to assist the local communities. These experiences show how ASBS combines high-impact learning with purpose-driven thinking. It could be through strategy or something as basic (but still competitive) as constructing a winning sandcastle.
Why ASBS MBA in Mumbai?
Although ASBS MBA is a 1-chain B-school with 12 campuses across the country, I chose my finance specialization with the ASBS MBA in Mumbai for a specific reason. Mumbai is the economic and financial hub of India. With the presence of large finance corporations, it will be easy for me to get placed in big core finance companies headquartered in Mumbai. This decision offered me broader exposure and job opportunities, which helped me a lot as I got placed in the third semester itself.
My Career after ASBS MBA
As a Junior Data Analyst at ISS STOXX, I am part of the US market team. My role involves analysing company disclosures. It includes analysing proxy statements and annual reports. I play an important role in extracting key insights for investors. We convert large volumes of financial data into structured, useful information for informed decision-making. The analytical skills I have developed during my ASBS MBA have been extremely helpful for this role.
The ASBS MBA curriculum significantly contributed to providing me with a job in my field of specialization. With its emphasis on hands-on learning, industry exposure, and skill-endowed modules, it helped me tailor corporate readiness. Teamwork, communication, analytical skills, and attention to detail have been vital.
My Takeaway and Advice for ASBS MBA Students
If you are an MBA finance student trying to build a career post-MBA, then I would say stay focused, select your institute carefully, and explore every opportunity that comes your way. Based on my experience of the ASBS MBA, it provides a strong foundation for freshers with industry-focused learning and placement support.
Sometimes just one institution, if chosen carefully, can change your life and career. I strongly believe in that. The ASBS MBA has been transformational for me. It has taken me in a new direction in life and helped me to take a bold step towards my dream career in finance.
